A hands on culinary crash course for college students!

Movie Night Munchies

With the Oscars this week, it is only fitting to have a class featuring delicious movie night munchies! We are making simple and scrumptious snacks that are sure to be the big winners of the night.

First, we will begin our class with a refreshing Strawberry Lemon Basil Soda. Unlike store-bought soft drinks that may contain unfamiliar products, this soda is made with fresh ingredients that you will be adding in. Strawberries and lemons both contain high amounts of vitamin C that protect your body against viruses, and basil has antioxidants that have heart health and anti-cancer benefits.

Looking for a healthy alternative to those greasy potato chips? We’re making kale chips! If you have yet to incorporate kale into your life, now is the time. Kale is packed with vitamins like vitamin K, which promotes bone health. We’ll season the kale with olive oil, garlic and sea salt, then we’ll bake it and create a crispy, flavorful, guilt-free snack to munch on!

Everyone’s favorite movie snack is getting a delicious makeover. We are hosting our very own popcorn bar! Our students will choose from a few different seasonings to flavor-up their popcorn—a few that are salty and one that is sweet. Did you know that when it’s not laded with movie theater butter and oil, popcorn has health benefits? It’s a whole grain, high in fiber food that can help maintain a healthy weight and reduce the risk of diabetes.

Finally, our students will be making dark chocolate covered almonds topped with sea salt. Almonds contain healthy unsaturated fats and fiber that are great for heart health and weight management. Almonds also contain phosphorus, which helps maintain healthy bones and teeth.
